The Extinction of Jurassic 5

j5.jpg
Bad news for fans of Jurassic 5’s positive, old school-flavored hip-hop: the group has officially broken up.

A spokesman for J5 has just confirmed to CMJ that the Los Angeles-bred collective has gone their separate ways after snatching up some final checks on their recent tour of Australia and Japan.

This comes a month after rumors of a break-up first started when group member Soup told an Australian paper: “I don’t want to sit here and fake around with it—we’re not seeing eye-to-eye right now…People see us as a harmonising, loving group, but that’s far from the truth…I’d like to keep it going, but you can’t force grown men to do what they don’t want to do.”

The representative also made clear that some members could possibly collaborate in the future. Charli 2Na is prepping his solo album Fish Out of Water, while DJ Cut Chemist, who left the group last year, is also focusing on solo material.

The good news? No more hip-hop singles with Dave Matthews. We hope.
