Marco…

Marco Polo f/ Masta Ace “Nostalgia”
from Port Authority (2007)

In the vast sea of hip-hop producers, Canada’s Marco Polo has stayed afloat by—according to the May issue of XXL—“employing some of the East Coast’s finest vets and samples.” On his first single, Rawkus’ latest signee sticks to the formula. With OG Brooklynite Masta Ace on mic duties and the sample from (what sounds like) a late ’70s jazz record, Marco Polo evokes “Nostalgia” for that mid-90s New York sound.

Oddly enough, Marco Polo isn’t even from New York. In fact, he’s one of many recent Brooklyn migrants who, for some reason or another knows New York hip-hop better than most New Yorkers. Of course, the cherry quarter-waters and Fort Greene brownstones are the icing on the cake.

Polo!
